Taranar
Taranar is renowned for some of the best warriors in the world. They are devoted, strong, and fearless, but their true power comes from their mastery over lightning magic. The soldiers imbue their bodies with lightning having it flow through them. This makes them siginificantly faster then the average soldier from elsewhere, capable of insane feats like dodge arrows. Their elite soldiers are even more intimidating, taking their skills to the max. They descend from the skies like lightning bolts and decimate vulnerable back lines. They are a tremendous foe, however very few of the Taranar can attain this level of skill.
Normaly, their amount of power would be insurmountable for anyone to compete with. However using their lightning magic to enhance their physical skills puts a very large strain on the user's body. After exerting so much energy and mana, the user can be extremely fatigued and may need to recover for days. This also has long term effects as well. During wartime, a soldier may only be able to last for a 5 years before their body gives out. Outside of wartime, a soldier may only be able to serve 12 years. The life expectancy of a soldier to dies of old age is about upper 30s from old age. Because of this limitation, they are not a very aggresive faction, but more passive, defensive, and diplomatic. A war for Taranar can retire a lot of soldiers just from the strain on their body, and not even because of a loss of life.
When a war is waged, they tend to stay as one large host. One advantage of this is that they can move everything that they need quickly from one place to another so it makes logistics easier. It also allows soldiers to have a fighting rotation allowing previous combatants to recover. They can better rotate soldiers in and out of combat allowing them to recover from battle.
Their mastery of lightning magic comes from their God, Zoras. His presence and powers is what gives the Taranar people such fervorous devotion. Zoras is heavily armored, and by imbuing himself with the power of lightning, his speed is unmatched. It is assumed that with how much mana he uses, he rarely leaves Thunder Peaks. The region has a constant thunderstorm were he is able to recharge. To the outside world, he is mysterious. However, his desire and goals for his people are very clear. His goal is to acquire knowledge about the Ancient Ones. To this end, Taranar is one of the knowledgeable places regarding the Ancient Ones, and they work very heavily with Altburg which some there also have an interest in the Ancient Ones. He speaks about a coming disaster, and the only way to survive it is with the Ancient Ones knowledge.
Even though Zoras has the final say on any deciscion in the kingdom, the day to day running of the kingdom is led by one individual who both controls the military and governance. This individual is known as the Grand Seeker. A new Grand Seeker is only chosen after the current one passes away or retires. When this happens, anyone can attempt to be the next Grand Seeker. All who wish to have a chance at this position participate in the Seeker Trials. The trials pit the participants against one another, and as the final challenge, must face off against Zoras himself. Zoras will then either give his blessing, or call for a new trial. If no one is found, then the people are leaderless until one worthy is declared. Governance is left up to the previous advisors to the last Grand Seeker, while a Seeker is chosen to act as temporary military leader.
As for the kingdom itself, Taranar has spiked mountains along the coast, then savanna grasslands at the bases of the mountains. They use these fields to grow plenty of wheat and other food. In the mountains, there is a special ore called 'fulgore'. Overall, this ore is not very durable, however it has unique property of becoming energized and strengthened with electricity and magic in general. It is also light weight which makes it perfect weapons and armor for their soldiers. Taranar is not too picky with it, and will trade it away. Between the extra food and the ore, this is how the kingdom makes extra money. Lastly they will ocasionally send out mercenaries for money, relationships, and renown. This helps them get more information about the Ancient Ones ruins, items, or other knowledge.
